Major League Baseball and MTV unveiled a new multi-year, cross-platforming partnership on Monday that “will bring fans inside the intersection of pop culture and baseball,” the league announced in a press release.

Content from the new partnership will air across MTV’s platforms, which include MTV, MTV2, mtvU, MTV Hits and MTV Jams. MTV plans to integrate MLB players into existing shows as well as developing new specials and weekend programming.

President of MTV Stephen Friedman discussed the deal, stating:

“As sports and pop culture increasingly collide, we’re thrilled to partner with MLB to cover baseball through a uniquely MTV lens. We will blur the lines between lifestyle and sports entertainment, spotlighting MLB’s most exciting players in a way fans have never seen before.”

David Ortiz and Andrew McCutchen will kick off the partnership with with a weekly, 30-episode series that will air on MTV2. The show will be shot from the MLB Fan Cave in New York City and will showcase the athletes off the field, highlighting their personalities and passions.

The league is looking to build off the success they have found with the MLB Fan Cave, according to executive vice president Tim Brosnan:

“The MLB Fan Cave has been an enormous success in showcasing the personalities of our star players to young fans and intersecting baseball with pop culture. Being able to partner with MTV on a weekly TV series will give us an opportunity to bring that concept to an even broader audience. We are excited to work with the creative team at MTV to develop content that our fans will enjoy.”

Additional details of the partnership will be announced at a later date.
