Domonic Brown trade rumors: Phillies listening to offers for OF

Philadelphia isn’t necessarily looking to deal Brown, but they will listen to teams’ proposals.

USA TODAY Sports

While the rumored Jose Bautista deal has been debunked, the Philadelphia Phillies are willing to listen to offers for outfielder Domonic Brown, reports Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.

Brown, 26, was rated the fourth best prospect in baseball by Baseball America prior to the 2011 season, but played his first full major league campaign in 2013. Over 139 games, he hit .272/.324/.494. Most enticingly, he hit 27 home runs and demonstrated natural power that is growing increasingly rare in the MLB. Furthermore, he is under team control through 2017.

A willingness to even discuss deals involving Brown demonstrates a change in general manager Ruben Amaro's feelings. At the 2013 trade deadline, Amaro said Brown--along with Chase Utley and Cole Hamels--was not available in any deals.

The Phillies are looking for a right-handed bat that can slot into the middle of the lineup. To acquire such a player, the team’s best option may be to trade Brown, says Todd Zolecki of MLB.com. Philadelphia will likely stand tough in trades as they have little need to trade Brown and would only do so if overwhelmed by an offer.
