MLB free agency: Twins making ‘strong push’ for Ricky Nolasco

Minnesota is searching for pitching help after their starters posted the worst ERA in MLB during 2013.

The Minnesota Twins are making a "strong push" for free agent pitcher Ricky Nolasco, reports Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.

Nolasco is coming off a solid 2013, going 13-11 with a 3.70 ERA for the Miami Marlins and Los Angeles Dodgers. The right-hander has thrown at least 190 innings the past three years and has started at least 30 games in five of the past six seasons.

The starter entered the offseason searching for an $80 million contract. While he seems unlikely to receive that much money, Nolasco’s agent stated that he has multiple four-year offers on the table.

Minnesota desperately needs starting pitching help after finishing 66-96 in 2013. Twins starters had a MLB-high 5.26 ERA in 2013 and struck out a league-low 477 batters, 123 less batters than the second lowest team. The club is looking to sign two starting pitchers this offseason, and are reportedly making progress with Bronson Arroyo.
