Former Texas Rangers CEO Nolan Ryan has talked with Houston Astros owner Jim Crane, but Crane has not yet extended a job offer to Ryan, reports Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle.

Crane talked with Drellich about Ryan, telling the reporter:

“I have talked to Nolan. We haven’t really discussed anything about him joining the team yet. But that certainly could be a possibility down the road. It depends what Nolan wants. ... As far as an offer of us talking about a position, we haven’t done that.”

Ryan stepped down as Rangers CEO and controlling owner on Oct. 31. Rangers co-owners Bob Simpson and Ray Davis purchased Ryan’s share of the team, but Crane told Drellich “I think he’s still cleaning up some of the stuff he has in relationship to the (Rangers).”

The 66-year-old may not want to come back to baseball, but the Astros would be an ideal fit for Ryan if he chooses to return. Ryan pitched for Houston from 1980-1988 and his son, Reid Ryan, is the Astros president of business operations.

Crane has previously indicated that he would be open to Ryan joining his staff, telling Brian McTaggart of MLB.com “I like Nolan, and at some point if Nolan wanted to do something, we’re all ears.”
