The Twins say they are going to push hard to sign two starting pitchers this offseason and are known to be interested in Matt Garza, Ricky Nolasco and Bronson Arroyo. That Minnesota is willing to go to five years does not mean they would do it for any pitcher. Arroyo, for instance, is seeking a three-year deal and his age (he will be 37 at the start of next season) means anything longer would be unlikely.
Garza and Nolasco may be candidates for a longer deal, however. The latter is known to have already received three and four-year offers on the market, but no team is reported to be close to an agreement. The Twins are rumored to be making a big push for Nolasco, but Garza may be the favored target in Minnesota. Despite being arguably the best free agent pitcher this offseason, Garza has not been the subject of many rumors so far.
The Twins have met with Garza's agent, though no offer was made. For his part, the right-hander says he would be open to a reunion with Minnesota, where he played his first two major league seasons before being traded to the Rays.
