Nate McLouth free agency: Orioles interested in re-signing OF

McLouth played well for the Orioles in 2013, but the team isn’t crazy about extending a multi-year offer.

Mark Konezny-USA TODAY Sports

The Baltimore Orioles have shown some interest in re-signing Nate McLouth, reports Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun. McLouth was the starting left fielder in Baltimore in 2013.

The Orioles had been hoping to avoid a multi-year deal with McLouth, but the market this offseason does not currently appear to favor one-year contracts. Both David DeJesus and Marlon Byrd received two-year agreements, indicating McLouth could be in for the same.

Last season was the first time McLouth played in over 100 games for the first time since 2009. He saw time in 146 contests for the Orioles, hitting .258/.329/.399 with 12 home runs and a career-high 30 stolen bases. His breakout season came in 2008 with the Pirates when he hit for an 853 OPS, led the NL in doubles, stole 23 bases, was elected to the All Star game, and won a Gold Glove.

The Orioles are not yet known to have extended an offer to McLouth. He made $2 million last year with Baltimore.
