The New York Mets have reached a one-year agreement with outfielder Chris Young, reports Jon Heyman of CBS Sports. The Mets will pay Young $7.25 million in 2014, writes Buster Olney of ESPN.

Young will look to bounce back in New York after a disappointing season in Oakland.

Young is coming off a disappointing season for the Oakland Athletics, batting .200/.280/.379 over 375 plate appearances. The right-hander has not hit for a high batting average over his career, but has shown the ability to draw walks and hit for power.

The 30-year-old can play all three outfield positions, but will likely man one of the corner outfield spots with Juan Lagares locked in at center field. Young is considered a strong defender.
The Mets are still looking to improve their outfield for 2014 and "remain in the mix" for Nelson Cruz, according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports. Cruz is coming off a productive 2013, batting .266/.327/.506 over 456 plate appearances, but received a 50-game PED suspension. The Mets would surrender their second round pick to the Texas Rangers if Cruz is signed.
