The Tampa Bay Rays have reportedly re-signed veteran catcher Jose Molina to a two-year deal. The contract is worth $4.5 million, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.

Molina has signed on to spend the 15th and 16th years of his big league career in Tampa Bay.

He spent the last two seasons in Tampa Bay, appearing in 201 games while splitting time behind the plate primarily with Jose Lobaton. Molina hit .233/.290/.304 last year with just two home runs and 18 RBIs. He's always been regarded as a solid defensive backstop and threw out 23 of 79 would-be base stealers in 2013.
Molina will turn 38 next year, and given all of the mileage he’s racked up over the years, a lesser role seems likely going forward. What he will provide is a quality veteran presence in the clubhouse, especially as the Rays continue bringing their young prospects up to the big leagues.
