Yankees free agency: Yanks will call everybody, many holes to fill

The Bronx Bombers are going to have an expensive phone bill this winter.

Jim McIsaac

The New York Yankees are coming off a season without a postseason berth, and now head into the offseason with the mindset of making some serious changes, according to the New York Times.

General manager Brian Cashman says he is ready to call everybody available to see how he can improve the club, which finished tied for third in the American League East with an 85-77 mark.

New York has glaring holes in the starting rotation, outfield and catcher positions. The Yankees have been linked to names such as Brian McCann, who would be expensive but certainly a major upgrade over Chris Stewart. The outfield could see a familiar face return if Curtis Granderson decided to sign his $14 million qualifying offer.

Of course, the underlying story is whether the Yankees will breach the $189 million luxury tax threshold. If they want to stay under it, they will have to wait until the Alex Rodriguez suspension saga comes to a conclusion to find out exactly how much money they have to play with.
