The New York Yankees have plenty of issues to address and holes to fill this offseason, but they have to wait until the Alex Rodriguez case is settled before doing any of that, according to Newsday.

New York has to see how the A-Rod case shakes out to know how much money is available to it.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi says that should a decision not be made soon, New York will be forced to make backup plans at the hot corner behind Rodriguez, in case of a suspension.
Currently, Rodriguez is appealing a 211-game suspension for alleged involvement in the Biogenesis scandal.
New York is trying to stay under the $189 million luxury tax threshold this offseason to avoid paying penalties for every dollar that exceeds the $189 million limit. If Rodriguez is suspended for any period of time, the money he loses will not count against the cap. If Rodriguez is lost for the entire season, his $27.5 million salary, for luxury tax purposes, will not count against the $189 million threshold, giving the Yankees the breathing room they need to sign high-priced talent.
