The Boston Red Sox have shown interest in signing free agent starting pitcher Tim Hudson, reports Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.

Hudson has quickly become a hot commodity among free agent starting pitchers. The veteran has remained effective despite his age, going 8-7 with a 3.97 ERA with the Atlanta Braves in 2013. Hudson has battled injury issues the past two season, but the injuries were to his ankle and his back, not his pitching arm, and should be healthy to start 2014.

The Cleveland Indians and Kansas City Royals have also expressed interest in signing Hudson, while the Braves have offered the starter a one-year contract. Hudson has spent the past nine seasons in Atlanta after spending the first six years of his career with the Oakland Athletics.
Boston appears to have plenty of starting pitch depth for 2014, with Jon Lester, Clay Buchholz, John Lackey, Felix Doubront, Jake Peavy and Ryan Dempster all under team control. Dempster, however, struggled in 2013, going 8-9 with a 4.57 ERA and could move back to the bullpen next season. The Red Sox could also explore potential trades if they sign Hudson, taking advantage of an expensive free-agent pitching market.
