MLB viewing guide: Tuesday schedule spotlight
Battles in the AL East and the end of Holland & Corbin’s low homer rates?

Day | Home SP | Visit. SP | Time | Where |
14-May | CC Sabathia (4-3), 3.23 ERA, 3.86 FIP | Felix Hernandez (5-2), 1.53 ERA, 2.18 FIP | 7:05 pm ET | YES Network, ROOT Sports |
For the first time in their careers, aces King Felix and CC face off against each other. Felix has to be licking his chops at the prospect of facing this Yankee lineup considering he dominated a more intimidating group last year. As Dave Sims noted in the linked clip, Felix has pitched to a magnificent 1.13 ERA at Yankee Stadium with 40 strikeouts in 39-2/3 innings. He'd be hard-pressed to improve on that sparkling ERA, but would you put it past him, even with Curtis Granderson possibly returning to the Yankees' lineup?
Day | Home SP | Visit. SP | Time | Where |
14-May | R.A. Dickey (2-5), 5.06 ERA, 5.03 FIP | Barry Zito (3-1), 2.75 ERA, 3.32 FIP | 7:05 pm ET | MLB Network, RSN, CSBA |
The last time the Giants were in Toronto, Cito Gaston and Vernon Wells were still with the team, Jose Bautista was just breaking out, Edwin Encarnacion was an underachiever, and the Giants were in a 56-year title drought. Former Giant Melky Cabrera will get his World Series ring, and the Blue Jays lineup will try to remind Zito that he is Giants' Zito and not the A's version. They make no promises.

14-May | Matt Moore (6-0), 2.14 ERA, 4.46 FIP | John Lackey (1-3), 2.82 ERA, 3.55 FIP | 7:10 pm ET | MLB Network, NESN, Sun Sports |
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the Trop's pitcher-friendliness, Moore has been at his best when pitching in Tampa. His home ERA and FIP for his career are 3.20 and 3.52, respectively, and in three starts there this year, he's lived up to such billing. He'll be backed by his typical support (Evan Longoria, .478/.556/.957 in the past week) and some atypical support as well (James Loney, .318/.400/.636 in the past week).
Day | Home SP | Visit. SP | Time | Where |
14-May | Patrick Corbin (5-0), 1.75 ERA, 2.99 FIP | Julio Teheran (2-0), 4.84 ERA, 4.77 FIP | 9:40 pm ET | Sports South, FOX Sports-Arizona |
Corbin is undefeated and has been a pleasant surprise for the D'backs, while Teheran might be turning a corner in his young career. Teheran has allowed 25 hits in his last 19.1 innings, but only one walk allowed has helped him limit the Rockies, Nats, and Giants to six runs. Since Corbin's been taken yard just twice in 46-1/3 innings, might this mashing Braves lineup offer him some FIP vs. xFIP (3.77) correction?
Day | Home SP | Visit. SP | Time | Where |
14-May | Bartolo Colon (3-2), 4.57 ERA, 3.66 FIP | Derek Holland (3-2), 2.54 ERA, 2.41 FIP | 10:10 pm ET | CSCA, FOX Sports-Southwest |
Yu Darvish has been stealing the spotlight in the Rangers' rotation, but Holland has been quietly excellent as well. Although he doesn't strike out as many batters as Darvish, his superior control keeps runners off base, and like Corbin, he has only given up two homers in 2013. The low HR/9 rate will probably not continue, but Holland could be on his way to his best season yet if his control stays true.
