Andy Pettitte to return to Yankees Monday vs. Indians

The veteran left-hander went on the DL with a strained muscle, but he looks set to return on schedule.

Andy Pettitte will return to the New York Yankees for Monday's game against the Cleveland Indians, reports Cleveland reporter Nick Camino. Pettitte strained his left trapezius muscle in a May 16th start against the Seattle Mariners and headed to the 15-day DL the next day.

Vidal Nuno was called up from Triple-A to bolster the pitching roster. He pitched six solid innings against the Tampa Bay Rays on May 25th, giving up two runs on five hits in a 4-3 Yankees win. With Pettitte's return, Nuno may be sent back to Triple-A, or Ivan Nova could be sent down instead.

Including the Mariners game where he exited after just 4⅔ innings, Pettitte has posted a record of 4-3 for the Yankees, with a 3.83 ERA and 2.7 walks and 7.1 strike outs per nine innings. His health has been a consistent concern since he returned to baseball in 2012. A fractured fibula kept him out of much of the 2012 season, when he started just 12 games.
