Josh Beckett injury: Dodgers RHP uncertain if he will pitch again

The starter has been experiencing numbness in his pitching hand, leaving Beckett concerned about his future.

Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Josh Beckett has been battling numbness in his throwing hand, and is uncertain if he will be able to pitch again, Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times is reporting.

Beckett discussed the injury with Hernandez, telling the reporter:

“Any time something like that happens to your arm or you start losing feeling and stuff ... you think about it for sure. I don’t really want to think like that right now. I want to think about figuring out a way to deal with this.”

The Dodgers originally placed the starter on the disabled list with a groin injury on May 15. Beckett has been experiencing the numbness for the past four weeks, but the injury only worsened as he attempted to work his way back from the disabled list.

Beckett recently underwent an MRI on his right hand, and a nerve specialist in Dallas will review the results of the MRI on Monday.

The injuries appeared to impact the starter on the mound.. Beckett made eight starts before heading to the DL, going 0-5 with a 5.19 ERA. The right-hander’s biggest issue had been the home run ball, as he surrendered eight homers in 43 1/3 innings.

Los Angeles has underperformed expectations this season. The Dodgers have gone 9-17 in May with one game remaining, which clinches the team's worst worst May in franchise history. The Dodgers sit in last place in the NL West, 7 1/2 games behind the division leading Arizona Diamondbacks.
