Jose Reyes injury: Blue Jays SS could return Thursday vs. Red Sox

Reyes has missed most of the 2013 season with a severe ankle sprain, but should return soon.

Toronto Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos appeared on MLB Network radio Sunday and said that shortstop Jose Reyes could return as early as Thursday when the Blue Jays face the Red Sox.

Anthopoulos seemed certain that Reyes would be back within the next week. The current plan for Reyes has him playing as DH for Triple-A Buffalo Sunday, then playing one more game for Buffalo before moving to Double-A New Hampshire on Monday. The move to New Hampshire will place Reyes much closer to Boston.

Reyes, 30, has missed much of the 2013 season with a severe ankle sprain. The speedy shortstop played in just ten games after being acquired from the Miami Marlins in the offseason. He had been hitting well in that brief time, but was carted off the field on April 12 after injuring his ankle sliding into second base.

The Blue Jays have dealt with a variety of injuries this season, but appear to be on their way to full strength just as the team is getting hot. Toronto won their tenth consecutive game yesterday and are above .500 for the first time this season.
