Yonder Alonso missed the entire month of June, and the first part of July as the first-baseman recovered from a fractured hand. Now it looks like the 26-year-old will be back with the Padres for Friday's game at home against the San Francisco Giants, according to MLB.com's Corey Brock.

July has been cruel to the San Diego Padres, but they look to be getting some help Friday, as it’s expected Yonder Alonso will be activated from the disabled list.

Alonso will hope he can return to his early-season form, which put him on pace for a career-best season. His six home runs, and 29 RBI in just 54 games would, if continued over a full season, have eclipsed his 2012 output of nine home runs and 62 RBI. His return to the Padres’ lineup couldn’t happen at a better time, as July has been particularly cruel to San Diego. The team has won just one game in its last 10, including brutal road trips to Washington and Boston which left them without a win.
The Padres remain 6.5 games back in the NL West, and they’ll hope the return of Alonso will prevent them from being sellers and the deadline, and hopefully make a run following the All Star break.
