Prior to the Baltimore Orioles game on Sunday, the team introduced its All-Stars to the fans. Among them was one surprise: Starting pitcher Chris Tillman, who was added to the AL roster earlier in the day, reports Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com.
Chris Tillman added to AL All-Star roster, replacing Justin Verlander
Tillman will be the fourth Oriole on the AL All-Star team.
Tillman will replace Detroit Tigers starter Justin Verlander. Verlander is pitching today and will thus be unable to pitch during the All-Star game.
Tillman, who is 11-3 on the year, has made 19 starts during 2013 for the Orioles. He currently has a 3.95 ERA and 1.352 WHIP to go with a 7.17 K/9 and 3.30 BB/9. His ERA places him third among Orioles starting pitchers. Over 15 starts during the 2012 season, Tillman posted a 2.93 ERA.
This will be Tillman’s first All-Star selection.
The Orioles will also have 1B Chris Davis, SS J.J. Hardy, and OF Adam Jones representing the team during the All-Star game.
