Yasiel Puig injury: Dodgers OF leaves game after collision with wall

For the second time in less than a year, a Dodgers outfielder has injured himself running into the wall at Coors Field in Denver.

SB Nation

Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig bruised his left hip after colliding with the right field wall against the Rockies at Coors Field on Wednesday night. Puig collided with the fence after making a catch of Nolan Arenado's drive in the fifth inning, then collapsed to the ground after throwing the ball back to the infield.

Puig stayed in the game to end the inning, then batted in the sixth inning. But after flying out, Puig was replaced in the bottom of the sixth by Skip Schumaker, who moved to left field. Andre Ethier, who started in left field, moved to right.

The Dodgers announced that x-rays on Puig’s left leg were negative, and he is day-to-day with a bruised hip and tightness in his thigh.

Puig has been a rookie sensation for the Dodgers, hitting .440/.466/.743 in 28 games since getting promoted to the majors on June 3. He was 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored on Wednesday.

Earlier on Wednesday, Puig was named the National League Player of the Month and the National League Rookie of the Month for June, becoming just the fifth rookie ever to win both awards in the same month. Puig is the first player to win both awards in his first month in the big leagues.

Dodgers outfielders are no stranger to the walls at Coors Field; center fielder Matt Kemp collided with the wall on Aug. 28, 2012. He injured his left shoulder on the play and required offseason surgery to repair a partially torn labrum.
