Stephen Pryor: Mariners Pitcher has surgery to repair torn tricep

The Mariners shut down Pryor a week ago after he experienced pain in his triceps.

Steven Bisig-US PRESSWIRE

Seattle Mariners reliever Stephen Pryor had surgery to repair a torn tricep, Ryan Divish of the Tacoma News Tribune reported Sunday.

Pryor made seven scoreless appearances for the Mariners before being placed on the disabled list in mid-April. He was pitching in rehabilitation with Triple-A Tacoma before experiencing soreness in his triceps last week. An MRI revealed a torn tricep, and the surgery to repair it has ended his season.

He had made one appearance in Single-A and four appearances in Triple-A before being shut down. In those five appearances, he gave up seven earned runs over 3 2/3 innings.

The 24-year-old righty made his major league debut with the Mariners last June. He has a 2.97 ERA in 30.1 innings pitched over 33 appearances for Seattle. He was a Mariners’ fifth-round pick in the 2010 amateur draft.

A timetable on Pryor’s return is unclear.
