Alexi Ogando injury: Rangers RHP has CT scan on sore shoulder

Texas just can’t seem to escape injury issues with its rotation.

Bob Levey

Texas Rangers right-hander Alexi Ogando underwent a CT scan on his shoulder Wednesday after complaining of discomfort following his Tuesday start, reports Drew Davison of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

The results of the scan won’t be known until Thursday, so until then Rangers fans will have to cross their fingers and hope that yet another starter isn’t making his way to the disabled list. Texas recently determined that both Colby Lewis and Matt Harrison will not be returning to the rotation this season.

Ogando himself has already had two stints on the DL this season: three weeks for a biceps strain and another six weeks for shoulder inflammation. The right-hander returned from his most recent stint just three weeks ago, so the chances are good that he’s aggravated the injury that sidelined him nearly two months.

Ogando, 29, has been very effective this season when healthy, though he’s struggled a bit in his most recent outings. The right-hander owns a solid 3.47 earned-run average in 15 starts on the year, but holds a 4.68 ERA in five starts since returning from his initial shoulder woes.

If Ogando needs to be sidelined again, the Rangers will likely fill his rotation spot with Josh Lindblom or Ross Wolf. The club could also eventually throw recent acquisition Travis Blackley in for a spot start, but he pitched exclusively as a reliever with the Astros this year so he needs to be stretched out at Triple-A first.
