Dodgers acquire Michael Young from Phillies

Young waived his no-trade clause to join the Dodgers.

Brian Kersey

The Los Angeles Dodgers have traded for Philadelphia Phillies infielder Michael Young, reports Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports. Young waived his no-trade clause, joining the team he grew up rooting for, according to Rosenthal.

The Dodgers announced the trade on Saturday night, sending left-handed pitcher Rob Rasmussen to Philadelphia to complete the deal.

Young has spent most of his innings in Philadelphia at third base, batting .276/.336/.395 over 512 plate appearances. The veteran has also logged innings at first and second base this year, but spent most of his career at shortstop with the Texas Rangers.

The 36-year-old gives the Dodgers a quality right-handed bat off the bench who can spell Juan Uribe at third and Mark Ellis at second. Uribe has hit .268/.326./.395 in 340 plate appearances, while Ellis has hit .273/.322/.363 in 392 plate appearances.

Young will be eligible for the post-season roster if the Dodgers add him to their 25-man roster by midnight Saturday. He can still be added to the post-season roster at a later date if he replaces an injured player on the Dodgers playoff roster.
