Chase Utley, Phillies agree to 2-year extension, per reports

The Phillies have signed the veteran second baseman through 2015, according to reports.

The Philadelphia Phillies are close to signing second baseman Chase Utley to a two-year extension, per Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal and first reported by Jim Salisbury of CSN.

Per Rosenthal, the deal will be worth between $25 and $30 million in guaranteed money and would keep Utley with the Phillies through at least 2015. Rosenthal reports that the contract includes “multiple vesting options.” The 35-year-old veteran is in the final year of a seven-year, $85 million contract.

Utley has spent his entire career with Philadelphia, making his MLB debut in 2003 with a grand slam in his first major league game. A five-time All-Star second baseman, Utley has won the Silver Slugger award four times and was a key member of the World Series championship team in 2008.

The veteran infielder has struggled to stay on the field the past three years, however, and played just 83 games in 2012. In 2013, Utley has appeared in 84 of 113 games, hitting .275/.336/.505 with 15 home runs.
