Kendrick, 30, has been on the disabled list since Aug. 6 with a left knee sprain. The second baseman suffered the injury by colliding with right fielder Collin Cowgill while chasing after a shallow pop fly off the bat of Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus.
Kendrick was originally expected to miss just a few games, but ended up needing over a month to fully recover. He ran the bases at close to full speed for the first time just last week, so his re-entry into the Angels lineup may be a gradual one.
The Angels’ main man at the keystone was in the midst of one of his best seasons at the plate when he went down last month. He is batting .301/.341/.437 with 11 home runs in 108 games on the year.
Kendrick was the subject of much trade speculation at the July deadline, especially in the wake of the club acquiring Grant Green from Oakland, but it’s unclear where his long-term status with the club stands now. He is signed through the 2015 season for $18.825 million.
