The New York Mets got some good news on the injury front for a change Wednesday. All-star third baseman David Wright ran the bases for the first time since pulling his hamstring early last month, meaning he could return to the Mets as early as next week, reports Adam Rubin of ESPN.

Wright will run the bases again Thursday, according to manager Terry Collins. Then, if nothing bothers him during the session, he’ll ramp things up over the weekend and look to re-join the lineup sometime next week.
The 30-year-old initially tweaked his hamstring running the bases in a game against the Marlins on July 31. Wright thought the injury was minor and attempted to play through it the next couple games, but was eventually pulled out of the lineup when he aggravated it two days later.
When Wright hit the disabled list on Aug. 3, the club believed there was a good chance he wouldn’t suit up again this season. Now, however, it appears the Mets will have their star third baseman for at least the final two weeks. Wright is batting .309/.391/.512 with 16 home runs in 105 games on the year.
