The Baltimore Orioles have scratched right-hander Bud Norris from his scheduled Friday start against the Blue Jays because of discomfort in his throwing elbow, reports Britt Ghiroli of MLB.com. Jason Hammel will start in his place in Toronto on Friday.

Norris' elbow started barking at him in mid-August after he was forced to work in relief during an extra-inning contest against the Diamondbacks. (To add insult to injury, Norris also took the loss in that game.)
The right-hander has made five starts on regular rest since that game, but the elbow starting acting up again during a bullpen session on Wednesday, motivating the club to skip his spot in the rotation.
Norris, 28, is hopeful that a few extra days rest will allow him to jump back into the rotation for the club's big series against the Red Sox next week. Manager Buck Showalter was a bit less optimistic Wednesday, saying only that he thinks "you'll see [Norris] pitch again for us."
The right-hander, who was acquired from the Astros at the trade deadline, owns a 4.67 earned-run average in 44⅓ innings for the O's so far. He's still in just his first year of arbitration, so even if he's not able to help Baltimore down the stretch this season, he'll be around to start in 2014 and 2015.
The Orioles are 6-5 so far in September and sit just 1½ games back of the Rays for the second wild card spot.
