Hanley Ramirez injury: Dodgers SS left game with hamstring tightness

Ramirez missed a month earlier this season with an injury to the same hamstring.

Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Hanley Ramirez left Thursday's game against the San Diego Padres with "mild left hamstring tightness," the team announced.

The Dodgers removed Ramirez in the seventh inning for precautionary reasons, according to manager Don Mattingly. Mattingly discussed the injury with Mark Saxon of ESPNLosAngeles.com, stating

“I think he’s OK. He gets tight during games and he always says he’s fine. It’s just one of those where I was feeling like we couldn’t take the risk right there with him.”

Ramirez did not discuss his injury with reporters, notes Steve Dilbeck of the Los Angeles Times, leaving the clubhouse in a hurry.

The shortstop has been a key contributor to the Dodgers, batting .342/.390/.634 over 310 plate appearances. Ramirez was sidelined for one month earlier this season with a strained left hamstring, and missed most of April with a right thumb injury.

The Dodgers enter Friday with an 86-60 record, their magic number to clinch the division down to five. The club is all but guaranteed a playoff spot, leaving little reason to risk a more serious injury.
