Domonic Brown injury: Phillies OF feels ‘close to 100 percent’

Brown is hopeful that he can return from his Achilles injury before the end of the year.

Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Domonic Brown took batting practice afternoon and feels "close to 100 percent," reports Todd Zolecki of MLB.com.

Brown has been battling a right Achilles injury the past few weeks, which has held him to 12 plate appearances since Aug. 23. Phillies manager Ryan Sandberg doesn’t expect Brown to return this weekend, according to Ryan Lawrence of Philly.com, but Brown is hopeful he can return this season.

The outfielder doesn’t want to push his injury, but isn’t ready to throw in the towel either, telling Lawrence:

“I don’t want to look like I gave up on anybody. I know guys don’t look at me that way, but that’s how I look at it. If I’m able to play, then I’m gonna play. If I’m hurting, then I’m hurting. But if I feel like I can play, I want to play.”

Brown has enjoyed a strong season at the plate, batting .274/.310/.513 with 27 home runs and 81 RBI in 482 plate appearances. He is still fourth in the NL in home runs and eighth in RBI despite the missed time.
