AL Wild Card race: Rangers, Rays tied atop standings

Taking a look at the latest AL Wild Card standings and schedules.

Hannah Foslien

The Texas Rangers and Tampa Bay Rays remain tied atop the AL Wild Card standings, but there are still four teams within striking distance of the slumping leaders:

Here is a look at the latest Wild Card standings:

TEAM W L PCT GB RS RA STREAK
Rangers 81 67 0.547 - 658 592 Lost 6
Rays 81 67 0.547 - 633 592 Lost 1
Indians 81 68 0.544 0.5 680 621 Won 4
Orioles 79 70 0.53 2.5 696 650 Won 1
Yankees 79 71 0.527 3 619 634 Lost 3
Royals 78 71 0.523 3.5 600 564 Lost 1

Tampa Bay is 17-23 since August, slowly ceding ground to the other contenders. Texas' decline has been more spectacular, losing six straight and 12 of their last 15.

The Cleveland Indians have been the biggest beneficiary of the leaders decline; they now sit a 1/2 game back of a playoff spot. The Baltimore Orioles, New York Yankees and Kansas City Royals all still have a chance to grab one of two Wild Card spots with some strong performances down the stretch.

Four of the six teams are in action on Monday. The Indians will travel to Kauffman Stadium to start a three-game series against the Royals. Scott Kazmir will take the mound for Cleveland, squaring off against James Shields.

The top two teams face off as well, with the Rangers kicking off a four-game series at Tropicana Field against the Rays. Matt Garza will start the first game against his former team, facing Alex Cobb.
