Dexter Fowler injury: Rockies OF could return Monday

A left knee injury has bothered Fowler for the past three weeks.

Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

Colorado Rockies outfielder Dexter Fowler could return to the lineup Monday against the St. Louis Cardinals after missing the past ten days with a left knee injury, reports Troy Renck of the Denver Post.

Fowler has been bothered by injuries for most of the season. He suffered a right wrist bruise in June after being hit by a pitch, which sidelined him for a month. Fowler injured his left knee in on Aug. 26, and has only appeared in three games since.

More Rockies: Gonzalez likely facing finger surgery

The outfielder has hit well when healthy, batting .262/.369/.408 in 486 plate appearances, scoring 71 runs while stealing 19 bases. He served as the team’s primary center fielder and leadoff man, providing the Rockies with 2.3 WAR.

Fowler is under team control for one more season, and will make $7.35 in 2014.

Colorado has had a disappointing season, entering Friday with a 68-82 record, last place in the NL West. Fowler, along with Troy Tulowitzki, Carlos Gonzalez, Wilin Rosario and Michael Cuddyer does give the Rockies a solid offensive core heading into the 2014 season.
