New York Yankees skipper Joe Girardi was posed the question Wednesday of whether or not he'd like to stay in the Bronx next season. While the manager said that he loves managing in New York, he was ultimately noncommittal about staying with the Yankees in 2014, reports Andrew Marchand of ESPN New York:

The Yankee skipper started with a “Yeah” when asked about wanting to stay in the Bronx for 2014, but then added the inevitable evasive commentary.

“Yeah, I mean, I don’t worry about those details until it is time to worry about it,” Girardi told ESPNNewYork.com. “To me, it doesn’t make sense to worry about it, but I love being here. To me, it is wasted energy to worry about it.”
His answer is essentially a variation on the standard “we’ll talk about this at the end of the season” deflection, just replete with worry (and the lack thereof).
Girardi, who is now in his sixth year at the helm in New York, will become a managerial free agent at the end of the year, meaning he could choose to take himself and his infamous binder with him to another organization if he so chooses.
Marchand speculates that the open managerial gig in Washington DC could be of interest to Girardi, and also posits that the former catcher could try making a return to the broadcast booth to replace fellow backstop Tim McCarver, who is (mercifully) retiring at the end of the year.
Girardi added Wednesday that he hasn’t “thought of [him]self doing anything else” other than managing as of yet, but that he’d sit down and talk it over with his family if any opportunity were to present itself.
At 80-72 on the season, the Yankees are 2.5 games out of a Wild Card spot with 10 contests to go. If the club can sneak their way into the postseason, it will be the fifth playoff berth in Girardi’s six seasons.
