Taking a look at the latest injury news involving key players.

Cespedes receive cortisone shot
Oakland Athletics outfielder Yoenis Cespedes received a cortisone shot in his right shoulder after Wednesday's game, reports Jane Lee of MLB.com. Athletics manager Bob Melvin said that Cespedes felt better after the cortisone shot, and could return to the lineup Friday.
Cespedes injured his shoulder last week diving for a ball in the outfield. He played three games this week, but served as the team’s designated hitter. The right-handed hitter has had a strong month, batting .365 with four homers and 15 RBI in six games.
Weaver scratched from Friday start
Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Jered Weaver has been scratched from his Friday start, according to Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com. Matt Shoemaker will replace Weaver, making his major-league debut in the series opener against the Seattle Mariners.
The Angels did not announce a reason why Weaver had been scratched, but the starter did suffer right forearm tightness on Sept. 9. Weaver made his next start following the injury, only allowing two runs over six innings against the Houston Astros.
Encarnacion undergoes surgery
Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Edwin Encarnacion underwent successful wrist surgery on Thursday, writes Joon Lee of MLB Daily Dish. Encarnacion missed four games last week with soreness in his wrist, and had one hit in 12 at-bats in three games against the Baltimore Orioles.
Blue Jays manager John Gibbons stated that there was no structural damage to Encarnacion’s wrist, and that the procedure cleaned up damage to his cartilage. The recovery will require two months of rehab.
