Arizona Republic, John McCain congratulates ‘classless’ Dodgers

The Dodgers clinched the NL West division Thursday against the Diamondbacks. Arizona asked the visitors not to celebrate the title on the field, requesting that they keep the party to the dugout. Los Angeles players thought they weren’t supposed to celebrate in front of the fans, and went to the pool at Chase Field after the stadium emptied to take a dive:

A number of Diamondbacks players and personnel were annoyed by the Dodgers decision to celebrate on the field, expressing their displeasure to the media after the game. The editorial board of the newspaper backed their hometown team, writing:

Congratulations are in order. Even to a bunch as classless as the Los Angeles Dodgers, the first players not wearing Diamondbacks uniforms to celebrate a championship by diving into the Chase Field pool.

The editorial hinted at frustrations that could possibly carry over into next season, stating:

Tensions have been high all season between these teams, especially since that mid-season brawl at Dodger Stadium. Hopes of dampening that tension now appear ... all wet
