Miguel Cabrera injury: Tigers 3B leaves game with groin soreness

Cabrera is considered day-to-day with the groin injury.

Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

Detroit Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera left Saturday's game against the Chicago White Sox with groin soreness, reports Jason Beck of MLB.com.

Jim Leyland removed Cabrera in the top of the tenth inning. Cabrera helped the Tigers mount a six-run comeback against the White Sox in the bottom of the ninth, hitting an RBI single and scoring on a Victor Martinez double.

Don Kelly replaced Cabrera in the field after the rally. The third baseman is considered day-to-day.

Cabrera has battled a number of injuries over the past two months, including a sore hip flexor and an abdominal strain, as well as the groin injury. He continues to excel offensively despite the health issues, batting .349/.445/.647 over 632 plate appearances.

Detroit entered Saturday needing only three wins to clinch the AL Central. Given Cabrera’s injury issues this season, it makes sense for the Tigers to exercise caution with their slugger and try to keep him healthy heading into the postseason.
