Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Jesse Crain is expected to be activated off the disabled list Monday, reports Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times.

The reliever has been sidelined since June 29 with a shoulder strain.

Tampa Bay acquired Crain from the Chicago White Sox before the trade deadline despite the fact that Crain has not pitched since June 29. The right-hander looked dominant when healthy, posting a 0.74 ERA with 46 strikeouts over 36 2/3 innings.

A shoulder strain has sidelined Crain since June, and the reliever suffered a setback before the trade deadline which further delayed his recovery. Rays manager Joe Maddon told Topkin at the end of August that it was not clear if Crain would return at all this season, but the reliever has apparently made progress since then.
Crain will be eligible for the Rays postseason roster if Tampa Bay can hold onto one of the AL Wild Card spots. The Rays enter Sunday with a 85-69 record, a half-game ahead of the Cleveland Indians for the first Wild Card.
