The Oakland Athletics clinched their second straight AL West title thanks to a Texas Rangers loss to the Kansas City Royals on Sunday afternoon.
Athletics clinch American League West title
The Athletics have gone 15-5 in September, helping the team clinch its second straight AL West title.

Royals outfielder Justin Maxwell hit a walk-off grand slam in the top of the 10th off Rangers reliever Joakim Soria, clinching the AL West crown for Oakland:
Texas entered September with a two-game lead over the Athletics in the division, but have gone 5-15 over its past 20 games. The Athletics have a 15-5 record in their past 20 games, which includes five victories in six games over the Rangers.
Oakland has won 16 AL West titles, including a memorable run last season when it swept Texas in the last series of the year to clinch the title. The Athletics hope to fare better in the postseason in 2013; they have failed to advance past the division series in five of their past six playoff appearances, including last season's 3-2 defeat to the Detroit Tigers.
