Shin-Soo Choo rumors: Mets unwilling to go beyond a four-year deal

New York is not expected to offer Choo a contract much larger than the contract Michael Bourn signed with the Cleveland Indians.

Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Mets do not plan to offer Shin-Soo Choo a contract longer than four years, reports Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com.

Choo will be one of the top free agent outfielders expected to be available during the off-season. He has been a key contributor to the Cincinnati Reds lineup in 2013, batting .286/.424/.466 over 701 plate appearances.

Scott Boras is looking for a deal north of $100 million for his client, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports. New York, however, is not expected to offer Choo a deal much larger than the contract Michael Bourn received from the Cleveland Indians: four years, $48 million.

That means Choo will not likely end up playing in Queens in 2014, since Boras will be looking for a deal larger than Bourn's. The San Francisco Giants, Texas Rangers and Chicago Cubs are all potential suitors for Choo, which could help drive the outfielder's price up.
