Cespedes will not play Sunday
Oakland Athletics outfielder Yoenis Cespedes will not play in Sunday's regular-season finale against the Seattle Mariners, according to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle.
Cespedes, who has been battling shoulder pain, left Friday’s game after two at-bats. A MRI showed no structural damage to his shoulder, but the injury forced Cespedes to serve as the team’s designated hitter for two weeks during September.
McCann will be ready by Thursday
Brian McCann will be ready to play by the division series opener next Thursday, reports David O’Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
McCann strained the abductor muscle near his right groin last Thursday, but has made significant progress in the past two days. Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said that McCann may receive a couple of at-bats in Sunday's regular-season finale against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Puig, Kemp out of lineup
Los Angeles Dodgers outfielders Yasiel Puig and Matt Kemp will not play in Saturday's game against the Colorado Rockies, writes Eric Stephen of True Blue LA.
Puig is out of the lineup after fouling two balls of his shin on Friday. The outfielder did participate in a full squad workout before the game, and is expected to return Sunday for the regular-season finale.
Kemp was scratched from the lineup for precautionary reasons with left ankle soreness. He injured his ankle during an awkward slide against the Washington Nationals on July 21, which forced him to miss 52 games.
