Matt Holliday hit a home run in his second straight game, while Yadier Molina drove in a pair of runs. Former Cardinals closer Edward Mujica did surrender a pair of runs in the ninth inning, putting his post-season roster spot in jeopardy.

The Indians gained a one-game lead for the AL Wild Card while the Pirates clinched home-field advantage for the NL Wild Card.

Phillies 5, Braves 4: Jimmy Rollins made a spectacular diving play on a Chris Johnson groundball in the ninth inning, recording the final out of the game after the Braves nearly completed a comeback. Justin Upton smacked a three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth, but Atlanta ended up falling behind the Cardinals for the best record in the NL.

Indians 5, Twins 1: Cleveland moved into sole possession of the AL Wild Card with their 14th win in their past 16 games. Scott Kazmir turned in an impressive start, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out 11. Carlos Santana connected on his 20th home run of the season, while Michael Bourn went 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBI.
Blue Jays 7, Rays 2: Toronto chased Tampa Bay starter Chris Archer after 2 1/3 innings, then tagged Alex Torres and Jamey Wright for five runs over the next two innings. Ben Zobrist, James Loney and Wil Myers all hit doubles, but the Rays went 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position. The Rays need to win on Sunday to guarantee at least a one-game tiebreaker for the second Wild Card spot.
Rangers 7, Angels 4: Texas took advantage of five Los Angeles errors to tie Tampa Bay for the second AL Wild Card spot. The Rangers scored three unearned runs, and Joe Nathan recorded his 43rd save in 46 chances. Texas also needs to win on Sunday to guarantee themselves at least one more game.
Neil Walker smacked a pair of homers, while Andrew McCutchen, Pedro Alvarez, Marlon Byrd and Andrew Lambo also went deep. Cincinnati had a number of opportunities to score against Pittsburgh, but stranded 11 runners.
Orioles 6, Red Sox 5: Steve Pearce drove in the game-tying and game-winning runs in the eighth inning with a double, but the Red Sox had already clinched home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. The Orioles are the only AL East team to win its regular season series against Boston.
Mariners 7, Athletics 5: Brad Miller smacked a pair of home runs, including his first major-league grand slam. Justin Smoak cracked a two-run homer for Seattle, becoming the fourth Mariner this season to hit 20 home runs.
Marlins 2, Tigers 1 (10): Giancarlo Stanton hit a walk-off single after Tigers closer Joaquin Benoit blew the save in the ninth inning.
Anibal Sanchez nearly wrapped up the AL ERA title by throwing five scoreless innings, while Miguel Cabrera went 2-for-4, raising his average to .348.
Rockies 1, Dodgers 0: Juan Nicasio and five Colorado relievers combined to shutout the Dodgers, only giving up three hits. Zack Greinke suffered a tough-luck loss, only allowing one run on four hits over six innings while striking out seven.
Nationals 2, Diamondbacks 0: Dan Haren out-dueled Brandon McCarthy, blanking the Diamondbacks over seven innings. Arizona fell to 80-81 with the loss, the first time they have been below .500 all season.
Brewers 4, Mets 2 (10): Carlos Gomez and Yuniesky Betancourt each hit RBI-singles in the top of the tenth inning for Milwaukee after Donovan Hand blew the save in the ninth.
Yankees 2, Astros 1: Andy Pettitte picked up a complete-game victory in his final MLB start.
The southpaw held the Astros to one run on five hits, striking out five while walking two. Pettitte’s last complete game also came at Minute Maid Park, as a member of the Astros in 2006.
Padres 9, Giants 3: Jesus Guzman, Chris Denorfia and Jedd Gyorko each homered for San Diego. Gyorko has hit 22 home runs this season, the most for a rookie second baseman since Dan Uggla in 2007.
White Sox 6, Royals 5: All 11 runs in this game were driven in by homers, with Conor Gillaspie and Adam Dunn each connecting on two-run bombs. The win helped Chicago avoid a 100-loss season.
