Hyun-jin Ryu injury: Dodgers pitcher skipped Friday with back stiffness

One of the three Dodgers hurlers to record at least 13 wins this year will have his next start pushed back.

Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Hyun-jin Ryu will not make his scheduled start on Friday against the Cincinnati Reds after experiencing back stiffness. Chris Capuano will start in his place, the team announced.

If Ryu's back was bothersome in his last start, he certainly didn't show it; the 26-year-old rookie hurler allowed just one run in 6⅓ innings while posting eight strikeouts against the San Diego Padres on Aug. 30. Assuming the issue clears up over the weekend, Ryu will make his next start on Tuesday against the Arizona Diamondbacks, per Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times.

Ryu, a native of South Korea, has posted a 3.02 ERA/117 ERA+ in 167 innings spanning 26 starts in his debut season in the states. Ryu has struck out 7.5 batters per nine innings while walking only 2.5. He is one of three Dodgers starters, along with Clayton Kershaw and Zack Greinke, with at least 13 wins this season.
