Buster Posey injury: Giants C has a ‘little fracture’ in his finger

Posey will rest for a few days before attempting to finish out the season with the injury.

Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey has a "little fracture" on his right ring finger, manager Bruce Bochy told Andrew Baggarly of CSN Bay Area.

Posey originally injured his finger blocking a pitch in the dirt on Tuesday. The catcher suffered a torn fingernail, but was able to finish out the inning before being lifted from the game. Posey underwent X-rays on Wednesday, according to Alex Pavlovic of the Mercury News, which revealed the extent of the injury.

Bochy indicated that Posey would rest for a few days, but the team will let him play if he can tolerate the pain.

Posey told Pavlovic there is no risk for him to play through the injury, and that he plans to return to the lineup:

“From what I’m hearing from the trainers and doctor, it’s something that hopefully in a couple of days, once it calms down, I’ll be able to play through it. I’m hopeful that it’s manageable...It’s not displaced or anything, so it’ll just correct itself.”

The 26-year-old has followed his MVP season with another strong year, entering Friday hitting .309/.377/.475.
