Bronson Arroyo wants a multi-year deal
Arroyo stated that he will likely leave Cincinnati as a free-agent if the team only offers him a one-year contract.

Arroyo entered Friday with a 13-10 record, posting a 3.62 ERA over 179 innings. The veteran is in the final year of a three-year, $35 million contract that he signed before the 2011 season.
The veteran expressed interest in staying with Cincinnati, but was frank with the reporters about financials being a major factor in the upcoming negotiations:
“If it wasn’t for the dollar bill, I know I would be in this uniform until the day I retire, because I know they enjoy what I do around here...but at the end of the day, dollars and cents always weigh a little heavier than anything else in life, usually. If my price tag is a little bit too much or they feel like they don’t want to give me more than a one-year deal here, then it’s going to be very difficult, because it’s probably going to be the last time I have an opportunity to go out and sign a multiyear deal with a ballclub.”
Arroyo can point to multi-year contracts signed by Ryan Dempster and Jeremy Guthrie last off-season as examples of veteran pitchers receiving longer than one-year deals. The right-hander also never missed a start because of injury with the Reds, and threw over 200 innings seven times in eight seasons.
The Reds have solid depth in the starting rotation. Mat Latos, Tony Cingrani, Johnny Cueto, Homer Bailey and Mike Leake will all be under team control next season, potentially making Arroyo expendable.
