Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Charlie Morton left Sunday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals in the second inning with left foot discomfort, the team announced. He will undergo treatment on the foot and be evaluated in the next few days.

Morton allowed five runs in 1 2/3 innings before being removed from the game.

Morton surrendered five runs on six hits while walking two in 1 2/3 innings. He threw 46 pitches, and left after throwing a wild pitch which allowed Jon Jay to score from third.

The right-hander has pitched well for Pittsburgh since returning in June from Tommy John surgery, going 7-3 with a 3.00 ERA. Morton had not allowed more than two runs in a start since Aug. 1, when the Cardinals tagged him for five.
The Pirates entered Sunday with a 81-60 record, a half-game behind the Cardinals for first place in the NL Central and one game ahead of the Cincinnati Reds for the first Wild Card spot.
