St. Louis Cardinals manager Mike Matheny has insisted upon putting outfielder Randal Grichuk into the lineup each game, despite the 23-year-old's ongoing issues producing at the plate. Much of Matheny's argument has revolved around Grichuk's defensive ability, and on Sunday, the outfielder gave his skipper and the Cards some support in the form of a sweet sliding catch.
NLCS Game 2 scoreless thanks to great catches
A pair of fantastic catches in the first inning of Game 2 have kept the offenses quiet at Busch Stadium.
The catch came on a ball off the bat of San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey, who fired a pitch from Lance Lynn to deep right-center. Grichuk and center fielder Jon Jay converged on the ball, with the former getting there first to slide in for the impressive grab at the warning track. Take that, anti-Grichukites.
It was just one of those innings for the guys at the plate -- the Giants also got an impressive catch of their own from outfielder Hunter Pence. As usual, he made sure to look super smooth and cool while making the play:
Jay hit that one off Jake Peavy, but the scoreboard remains blank thanks to the strong work of these two defenses. The Giants lead the series, 1-0.
