World Series schedule 2014: Royals to open at home on Oct. 21

SB Nation 2014 MLB Bracket

The Kansas City Royals have advanced to the World Series for the first time in 29 years, with a 2-1 win on Wednesday and sweep of the Baltimore Orioles in the American League Championship Series. The Royals will now await either the San Francisco Giants or St. Louis Cardinals in the Fall Classic.

The Giants lead the Cardinals in the NLCS, three games to one.

The 2014 World Series will begin at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City on Tuesday, Oct. 21, opening in the American League park by virtue of the A.L. winning the All-Star Game in July. This is the first trip to the World Series for the Royals since 1985, also the last season the team made the playoffs.

Kansas City hasn't lost a postseason game since Game 4 of the 1985 World Series. The Royals won the final three games to capture its only world championship that season, and the 2014 version is 8-0 so far this postseason, sweeping the Angels and Orioles after a wild card win over the Athletics.

This is the Royals' third trip to the World Series, with a win over the Cardinals in 1985 and a loss to the Phillies in 1980.

Here is the World Series schedule, with game times and the National League entrant still to be determined:

Game 1: Tuesday, Oct. 21 at Kauffman Stadium
Game 2: Wednesday, Oct. 22 at Kauffman Stadium
Game 3: Friday, Oct. 24 at San Francisco or St. Louis
Game 4: Saturday, Oct. 25 at San Francisco or St. Louis
Game 5*: Sunday, Oct. 26 at San Francisco or St. Louis
Game 6*: Tuesday, Oct. 28 at Kauffman Stadium
Game 7*: Wednesday, Oct. 29 at Kauffman Stadium
*if necessary

The 2014 World Series will be televised by FOX, with Joe Buck on play-by-play, joined by analysts Harold Reynolds and Tom Verducci, and reporters Ken Rosenthal and Erin Andrews.
