Royals vs. Angels, 2014 ALDS Game 2 final score: Eric Hosmer home run lifts Kansas City to 4-1 win

Eric Hosmer hit a two-run home run in the 11th inning to help give the Royals a 4-1 win over the Angels.

SB Nation 2014 MLB Bracket

Eric Hosmer hit a two-run home run to give the Royals a third consecutive extra-inning postseason win. The 4-1 victory over the Angels on Friday night in Anaheim put Kansas City ahead 2-0 in the best-of-five American League Division Series.

After Lorenzo Cain beat out an infield single with one out in the 11th, Hosmer blasted a two-run shot over the right field wall off Kevin Jepsen, setting up Kansas City to take a commanding series lead.

Hosmer was 3-for-4 on the night.

The Royals are the first team in history to play in three consecutive postseason games of 11 or more innings, let alone win them.

In a hard-fought pitchers duel, Yordano Ventura and Matt Shoemaker managed to keep the earned run part of their respective ledgers clean for the first five innings of the game. They were both able to strike a handful of opposing batters -- Ventura had five in seven innings, and Shoemaker had six in six innings -- while spreading out five hits each over the course of their outings.

Brandon Finnegan, the Royals' first round pick in this year's draft, pitched a scoreless 10th inning for his first major league win in just his 10th major league game. Greg Holland struck out two in a scoreless 11th inning to save his second straight game.

The two teams head to Kansas City next, where C.J. Wilson will try to keep the Angels alive on Monday night in Game 3, facing Royals ace James Shields.
