Dodgers vs. Cardinals, 2014 NLDS Game 4: Start time, TV schedule and how to watch online
The Cardinals look to advance to their fourth straight NLCS, with the Dodgers hoping to send the series back to Los Angeles for Game 5.
The St. Louis Cardinals outlasted the Los Angeles Dodgers in a crucial 3-1 victory Monday night, and the two teams will do battle again Tuesday at Busch Stadium in NLDS Game 4. St. Louis will be hoping to wrap up the series and secure its fourth straight trip to the NLCS, while Los Angeles and ace Clayton Kershaw need a win to force a decisive Game 5.
Kershaw will get the start on three days' rest, a decision Dodgers manager Don Mattingly announced Monday afternoon. The lefty fell to a surprising loss in Game 1 when Matt Carpenter hit a three-run double in the seventh inning to complete a five-run Cardinals comeback. Kershaw allowed eight hits and eight runs in the outing, but did strike out 10 without walking a batter over 6⅔ frames. The loss pushed Kershaw's career postseason ERA to 5.20 despite his sterling 1.77 ERA during the 2014 season.
Dodgers vs. Cardinals
The Cardinals will turn to Shelby Miller, who has never started a game in the playoffs. Miller finished the regular season with a 3.74 ERA, but walked 73 batters while striking out only 127 in 183 innings pitched. The 23-year-old hurler did perform far better after the All-Star Break and specifically in September, which gives the Cardinals some reason for optimism. In 13 second-half outings, Miller compiled a 2.92 ERA and held opponents to a .201 batting average.
