Free-agent starting pitcher Jon Lester is drawing heavy interest from six teams, according to WEEI's Rob Bradford.

The Cubs and Red Sox are among a handful of teams with “legitimate interest” in Lester.

The Red Sox, for whom Lester pitched during his first eight and a half big league seasons, reportedly are one of those clubs. The Cubs are another, per Bruce Levine of 670 The Score in Chicago. The team has set up formal meetings and a tour for the 30-year-old left-hander, notes Levine. Lester was drafted and developed during Theo Epstein's tenure as general manager in Boston. Epstein is now the Cubs' president of baseball operations.
Lester finished the 2014 season with a 2.46 ERA in 219⅔ innings. He struck out a batter per inning and posted a career-low walk rate for the Red Sox and Athletics. In 253 appearances spanning nine seasons, Lester owns a 3.58 ERA and 121 ERA+.
