Gold Glove 2014 award winners: Royals, Orioles lead all teams with 3 recipients
MLB announced the winners of the 2014 Rawlings Gold Glove awards Tuesday night.

Nine players from each league were named as the best fielders at their respective positions. This marks the second year sabermetric influence has been a component of the selection process. Defensive metrics -- including Defensive Runs Saved, Ultimate Zone Rating, Total Zone Rating and more -- make up 25 percent of the selection criteria. The remaining 75 percent is made up of votes from managers and coaches around the league.
Along with the AL East champion Orioles, the Royals led all teams with three Gold Glove winners, each of whom contributed to the club’s improbable World Series run. The Rockies and Braves didn’t have that type of success in the NL, but both teams had a pair of players take home hardware for their defensive work.
