Bruce Bochy, Buck Showalter among Manager of the Year finalists

Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

The finalists for 2014 Manager of the Year were announced by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America on Tuesday in an hour-long show on MLB Network.

Bruce Bochy of the Giants, Clint Hurdle of the Pirates and Matt Williams of the Nationals were the three finalists for top National League honors. It should be noted that the awards were voted on before the postseason, so Bochy gets no extra credit for winning his third World Series in five years with San Francisco.

Hurdle won the award in 2013. Bochy won in 1996 with the Padres. This is Williams’ first year as a major league manager.

The American League finalists were Mike Scioscia of the Angels, Buck Showalter of the Orioles and Royals manager Ned Yost. All six finalists made the playoffs, with three division winners and three Wild Card Game participants.

Scioscia has won the award twice (2002, 2009), as has Showalter (1994, 2004).

The BBWAA announced the top three finishers on Tuesday for Rookie of the Year, Manager of the Year, Cy Young Award and Most Valuable Player in each league. The Manager of the Year winners will be announced on Tuesday, Nov. 11, in an hour-long special on MLB Network at 6 p.m. ET.
