MLB Roundup: Athletics sign Sam Fuld, Marlins add Jeff Baker
The A’s inked outfielder Sam Fuld to a minor league deal.

The contract will pay Fuld $800,000 if he makes the major league club and also includes another $100,000 in incentives depending upon games played. The 32-year-old Fuld has bounced between the majors and Triple-A for the Tampa Bay Rays in recent seasons, and batted .199/.270/.267 in 119 major league games last year. The A's already have four outfielders on their roster for 2014 in Coco Crisp, Yoenis Cespedes, Josh Reddick, and Craig Gentry, and Fuld will serve as a bench option who can play all three outfield positions if he makes the team.
Miami signs Jeff Baker
The Miami Marlins signed utility man Jeff Baker on a two-year, $3.7 million contract, per Joel Sherman of the New York Post. The deal will pay Baker $1.6 million in 2014 and $2.1 million in 2015, and also includes up to $500,000 in bonuses for each season. Baker spent 2013 with the Texas Rangers, hitting .279/.360/.545 with 11 home runs and 21 RBI. He made 26 pinch-hit appearances and played five different positions. He will likely reprise those roles with the Marlins over the next two seasons.
Morrison avoids arbitration with Seattle
The Seattle Mariners and Logan Morrison avoided arbitration Tuesday by settling on a $1.75 million contract, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports. After Morrison requested $2.5 million, the Mariners offered $1.1 million, and the two sides settled right near the middle. The agreement also includes $350,000 in incentives, per Heyman's report.
The 26-year-old Morrison has struggled in the majors after a strong rookie campaign. In 2013, he batted just .242/.333/.375 for Miami. The Mariners acquired Morrison this past December in exchange for Carter Capps. Morrison will likely share playing time with fellow Seattle newcomer Corey Hart in right field in 2014.
